Jake's Weekly Flow #37

Weekly Flow #37 - September 16th, 2023

Dear, changemaker

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and profound wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • A powerful message filled with wisdom for parents looking to cultivate more meaning and purpose with young children and teens. How Spirituality Affects Childhood Development • The Science of Teen Spirituality - Fetzer Institute “In light of rising rates of mental health conditions in the US and beyond, Fetzer’s work has uncovered that spirituality may be the key to building more resilient minds. This video collaboration between Fetzer and Freethink captures the latest research on the potential of the spiritual dimension of whole child development.”

  • A Burning Issue: How to Integrate the Climate Crisis into Travel Conversations. By JoAnna Haugen “People can no longer ignore the impact of the climate crisis when they travel.”

  • If you’re a traveler, you’re likely very curious, and often wondered, are we alone. NASA says more science and less stigma are needed to understand UFOs

  • A Practical Guide on Finding Inner Peace | Jack Kornfield | Knowledge Project Podcast “Author and Buddhist practitioner Jack Kornfield discusses how to suppress self-doubt, find inner calm, deal with conflict and stress in your life, and handle harmful outside influences in healthy, constructive ways.”

  • An important message for tourism and travelers from me and our TTC Ambassador in Hawaii, Debbie Misajon, founder of the Coconut TravelerWith West Maui Preparing To Resume Tourism, Being Mindful and Reverent Is Key - by Mia Taylor “When events like the Maui wildfires happen that have an impact on tourism, it exposes systemic issues we’re facing as an industry and they become glaring,” Jake Haupert, co-founder of Transformational Travel Council, explained during a recent interview with TravelPulse. “Some of those systemic issues are not related to why we travel and how we travel," Haupert adds. "It’s a reflection of a major dysfunction we have within tourism. But beyond that, there’s also the expectation and the entitlement that we have really created within the tourism industry.”

  • Blistering heat is ravaging tourism hotspots. Can the industry reinvent itself? “With tourism booming, experts are calling out the "industry dishonesty" that is failing to cut back on travel-related emissions” - by Gaye Taylor

  • The Art of Life - “A documentary about the art of living outside of conventions, in deep integrity with one's essence. Featuring Michael Behrens.”

  • Oooooh, this is mesmerizing and deeply haunting … Must watch! Thanks to the Goodness Exchange for sharing! Monsters You Must See: The Bulgarian Kukeri Dance Away Evil. “Is that not the most awe-inspiring thing you’ve seen today!? Something about watching these dancers in slow motion brought out a primal fascination in me that has yet to be matched. You can see more from director Killian Lassablière on his Instagram.”

  • The Case Against Travel by Agnes Callard “It turns us into the worst version of ourselves while convincing us that we’re at our best.”

You may have noticed that I shared a few articles that highlight the intersection of travel, climate change and some of the systemic issues that we’re facing in tourism.

With that in mind, I could not be more thrilled to share that my readers are the first to know that Transcend ‘24 will be officially announced this week in conjunction with the UN’s Climate Week NYC.

Transcend ‘24 will take place from April 8th to 12th in beautiful Bonito, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Brazil!

This beautiful and incredible biodiverse destination is the First Carbon-Neutral Ecotourism Destination Worldwide. And they have now called upon the TTC for support, as we know that if we want to impact climate change, we have to starting with changing minds.

One more thing, unfortunately, one of the individuals who was meant to Pilgrimage with me next week had to cancel. Do you want to join us and Walking Mentorship on the Camino de Santiago from the 23rd of September to the 1st of October? Email me if you're ready to Walk the Way at a moment's notice! What an epic story to tell!

Stay tuned for your chance to join us in Brazil!

Peace,
