Jake's Weekly Flow #23

Weekly Flow #23 - June 9, 2023

G’day, curious ones

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and profound wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • Earth’s health failing in seven out of eight key measures, say scientists - Groundbreaking analysis of safety and justice hopes to inform next generation of sustainability policy.

  • I have the opportunity to engage with some extraordinary people week to week. This week, the highlight was Barbara Groth from the Nomadic School of Wonder. My mentor and friend, Gordon Hempon, The Soundtracker, introduced us and I am ever so grateful. The transformative magic that is flowing through her reminds me of the importance of play in the human dynamic and especially in transformational experience design.  Learn more about “How The Nomadic School Of Wonder Is Creating Transformational Experiences Of Purpose And Meaning For Leaders And Their Teams” In  Part 1 and Part 2.

  • Another juicy one from one of my other favorite thinkers, Daniel Christian Wahl, Who are we? Where do we come from? What is our purpose? Where are we going?

  • Why Don’t Most Parents Teach the Golden Rule?  “A new survey finds that only 14% of parents teach their kids the Golden Rule, and over a quarter don't even know what it is. Why?”

  • Darn, Olive and I just missed one of nature’s most incredible spectacles. Watch the Kīlauea Volcano Live Stream - Halemaʻumaʻu crater

  • This choked me up … Watch: Rescuers free humpback whale trapped in shark nets in Australia.

  • So exciting to see the first Early Adopter of our Destination Regeneration program Willamette Valley mentioned in this article by Subaru! A Beginner’s Guide to Regenerative Travel - By Teresa Ristow - “Embracing regenerative travel can help our favorite destinations flourish for decades to come.” My good friend and colleague for nearly 20 years, Kieron Wilde, who participated in our program has his business, First Nature Tours, featured as well, as they are leading the way on regenerative experience design … Way to go Doc K!

See photos of me, Kieron, Jillian Dickens and Marina Laurent of the TTC, and the Executive Director of Willamette Valley, Dawnielle Tehama and the local WVVA Regenerator team  in the photos taken at one our two workshops last year!

Leaving you this week with this gem!

Listening by Rumi:

What is the deep listening?
Sama is a greeting from the secret ones
inside the heart, a letter.
.
The branches of your intelligence
grow new leaves in the wind of this listening.
.
The body reaches a peace.
Rooster sound comes,
reminding you of your love for dawn.
.
The reed flute and the singer's lips.
The knack of how spirit breathes into us
becomes as simple and ordinary as eating and drinking.
.
The dead rise with the pleasure of this listening.
If someone cannot hear a trumpet melody,
sprinkle dirt on his head and declare him dead.
.
Listen and feel the beauty of your separation,
the unsayable absence.
.
There is a moon inside every human being.
Learn to be companions with it.
Give more of your life to this listening.
.
As brightness is to time, so you are
to the one who talks to the deep ear in your chest.
.
I should sell my tongue and buy a thousand ears
when that one steps near and begins to speak.

Keep listening,
