Jake's Weekly Flow #22

Weekly Flow #22 - June 2, 2023

G’day, good people

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and profound wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • Monarch Butterfly Migration: A Breathtaking Journey - Imagine a world covered in butterflies. Trees, heavy with the weight of millions of tiny, beautiful, creatures… This world does not have to come from your imagination because every year, monarch butterflies migrate to the forests northwest of Mexico City to spend the winter. This incredible migration spans generations and is one of the most spectacular journeys on the planet.

  • Buzzwords get a bad wrap, this drives me nuts. It’s easy for people to dismiss what they don’t understand or even worse, try to market or monetize them, and acting like they do. Hidden in buzzwords are the future, we should take the time to understand them before we use them, marketing them, or bash them. In this moment of transformation, we need more innovation and more people caring, so let’s look upstream and ask why they are buzzwords and appreciate the beauty of new words and new vocabulary that is often meant to heal rather than destruct. 14 buzz words of eco-travel, and what they really mean “Maybe you haven't heard of untourism or biophilic design yet, but chances are, you're already embracing them.” - Celeste Mitchell

  • Your Happiness Calendar for June 2023- This month, be your best self. - Kira M. Newman

  • Seems many of us say, including myself, “I am not religious, I am spiritual.” What does that even mean? Does it matter, we all connect to source, the field, God, the universe, mother nature, in different ways. The important thing is that we’re seeking and nurturing the connection, what ever that may be. In a time where we’re feeling more lonely than ever, lacking meaning, seeking purpose, I am a big fan of looking within, asking deep questions and doing deep work.  I found this data intriguing and inspiring… What this means to me is that people are actually contemplating their inner self, their connections, and how it all fits together. A rising number of Americans are switching religions.

  • If you only have time for one deep dive this week,  I hope you jump into this ‘more beautiful world talk’ with an open heart and open mind:  Staying Sane in the Next Five Years by Charles Eisenstein. “A far-ranging speech of dizzying heights and depths. Charles speaks of a shift of timelines, the candidacy of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the collapse of the old story, sanity and madness, vengeance and redemption, synchronicity and will, and the songs of birds.”

  • I love this news out of Namibia, one of my favorite places on Earth. Youth called to get involved in tourism. If you’re interested in traveling to Namibia, or anywhere else, with a transformative mindset, book your journey with one of our TTC Accredited Transformers

This week, I am going to share a post that our amazing Destination Regeneration facilitator, Vanessa Vivian Wabitsch shared in our LinkedIn channel. It’s so inspiring! We’re doing deep, disruptive, meaningful and beautiful work and I could not be more proud of our team and the communities  we’re working with. These communities are shifting mindsets, unifying and bringing new and fresh ideas, perspectives, and approaches to old, nagging, systemic problems.

“How to create our desired future in this present moment? This is the topic that Whidbey and Camano Islands in Washington State, US address in their implementation of the Destination Regeneration Plan using the approach #regenerative #development by #tourism.

This week, I had the honor to develop and facilitate the first Regenerative #Community #codesign workshops by Embrace Whidbey and Camano Islands with Jillian Dickens and the The Transformational Travel Council. We presented the program, asked the community for feedback and inputs. It was amazing to see how many community members aim to join the program and contribute with their organizations and initiatives in the field of environment, education, art, businesses and much more. It was felt how the love of the island and the topic regeneration is connecting all.

I am truly amazed how Whidbey and Camano Islands are integrating the Destination Regeneration Plan in the core of their tourism strategy. They have rebranded Whidbey and Camano Islands Tourism to Embrace Whidbey and Camano Islands and have the intention to life and regeneration at the center of every decision and project.

It is an absolute honor and joy working with all these wonderful people on implementing the Destination Regeneration Plan for a couple of months. Looking forward for the months to come!

Residents of Whidbey and Camano Island co-creating a regenerative future!

“Flourishing future-fit businesses and destinations require us to go beyond the surface and symptomatic into transformation mindsets at deep and partly unconscious levels.”
