Jake's Weekly Flow #21

Weekly Flow #21 - May 26th, 2023

G’day, good people

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and profound wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • Regenerative Tourism: Creative Minds Model for a Better World “The second development, several ‘micro-hospitality’ projects by Thierry Teyssier, the Founder of 700’000 Heurs, may be part of the ultimate regenerative tourism solution. An article in CEO Magazine refers to them as ephemeral hotels, temporary accommodations designed to last only a short time. Small in size, the hotels occupy remote places like deserts or forests for a few days or weeks, offering guests unique and immersive experiences. In theory, these small temporary hotels allow the surroundings to regenerate and rejuvenate once removed. I think of them as a new eco-friendlier form of glamping. Teyssier’s 700’000 Heurs (In French) move to remote regions worldwide every six months.”

  • The Fallout of a Callout: In this week's Code Switch, Hari and Hank speak to each other publicly for the first time since Hari's documentary The Problem With Apu came out in 2017. The film called out Hollywood's portrayal of South Asians and doubled as a criticism of Hank, who is white, for voicing the Indian Simpsons character, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. They talk about what went down in the aftermath, and how the fallout defined their careers — and their lives — in very different ways.

  • Beginning June 17th, our friends at the Soul Focused Group are excited to introduce a new offering: The Power Summit, A Learning Series about Uncovering the Assigned Ego: How it Undermines Your Power in Unseen Ways.

  • A story about the challenges, benefits and gifts of transformative retreats, shrooms,  and dark retreats! I loved this excerpt… As published in the CNN Article, “When someone goes into the darkness, all these things that were important to them like money, fame, power, status, being worthy – they all become insignificant and meaningless in the dark,” Berman said. “In the dark, all you have is the present moment which reveals what is truly meaningful – whether it’s love, forgiveness, peace – and it begins to transform you as you truly authentically touch what is most important to you,” said Scott Berman, who owns Sky Cave Retreats along with his wife Jill, adding the darkness helps illuminate what really matters by stripping away the constant bombardment of sensory input and stimulation many people experience in their hectic modern lives.“ Would you do a dark retreat? I am nervous about it but am planning on it! :)

  • Zach Bush, MD’s Beautiful Vision For Human & Planetary Evolution, The Rich Roll Podcast. “We are approaching a significant tipping point for human and planetary health. Despite the breakneck pace of innovation and technology striving to solve these problems, I can’t help but feel the solutions we need continue to elude us.”

  • Resilience and Nature: Cultivating Resilience, Joy, and Wonder through Meditation in Nature with Mark Coleman’s Six-Weeks Starting May 30th Online and Live via Zoom

  • My family and I are BIG dog lovers and found this article insightful, warm, and fun. Do you think your dog loves you?

  • Thank you, TTC Ally, Jen Spatz of Global Family Travels for sharing this article with us: The Future of Sustainable Travel Is Family Travel. Here's Why.

  • I have a very tight group of 4 friends that get together and share the 5% of our lives that we need the most support on. Screentime and the impact that it is having on our kids, our relationships and our society is always top of mind. Most of us already know this, but so glad to see this … U.S. Surgeon General: We need to protect kids from social media risks immediately

  • Still time to Walk ‘The Way’ with me in September. The group is shaping up to be pretty special. I am so excited!

Lastly, a Happy Birthday to my Olive, she turns 13 this weekend! If you followed along with her ‘coming of age’ adventure by campervan in Hawaii, here are some of the photos from that very special daddy daughter journey. One-on-one time with your kiddos is so deeply moving and important, especially in and with nature. I hope this inspires those of you with kids to take some mindful moments with them this weekend and if you don’t have kids, I am sure there is a child in your life, a nephew, niece, neighbor or otherwise that you can bestow some light and love on.  It is a challenging time to be a kiddo, they need all the real human interaction, connection, and love we can give.

Believe in YOU!

Love,
