Jake's Weekly Flow #43

Weekly Flow #43 - October 28th, 2023

Dear, friends

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and profound wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • Recently discovered this ethical and thoughtful travel publication, Catalyst Planet. If you like the content I’m sharing, I’m sure you’ll appreciate them. Sign up for their enews!

  • I’ve not seen it yet, but there sure is a lot of buzz and positivity coming from the new Barbie movie … thought this was interesting. Is It Really Helpful to Talk About Toxic Femininity? - “The movie Barbie put the phrase "toxic femininity" back in the news. But what does that mean and why should you care?” By Karrin Vasby Anderson

  • The Story of Separation: Sneak peek behind the scenes of the 2023 Regenerative Leadership Journey - “You are invited behind the scenes of Regenerators Academy! Take a sneak peek of the 3rd live session of the 2023 Regenerative Leadership Journey with Laura Storm: Healing the Story of Separation. • Hoping to convince this good human to come speak at Transcend ‘24 in Brazil! Watch this and you’ll see why! Why Awe Is Such an Important Emotion - “Dacher Keltner, director of the Greater Good Science Center (GGSC) and professor at UC Berkeley, gives an overview of the young science of awe, from how it's expressed to its benefits for health and well-being. Filmed at the GGSC's June 2016 conference, The Art & Science of Awe.”

  • So many of us struggle with finding purpose, here are some really good insights on Purpose, including 5 Myths of Purpose, from our friends at the Modern Elder Academy (MEA)

  • Keeping in the purpose theme, my good friend, and new TTC Member, Aaron Hurst is one of the world’s top experts on purpose. Have a listen to Ep. 15: On Finding Purpose with Aaron Hurst! By Let’s Go Julio - “Aaron is a serial social entrepreneur and a leading expert on the science of purpose and fulfillment at work. He is the founding CEO of Imperative, founder of the Taproot Foundation, and bestselling author of The Purpose Economy. In this episode, I talk with Aaron about what purpose is and isn’t, the importance of quiet, and surviving burnout. Aaron explains the importance of reflection for meaning making, how to know if you’re coachable, and how to ask for, and offer, help.”

OMG, so excited and proud! This week I was at the State of Washington Tourism Conference in Yakima, Washington. Was nice to see some old friends and colleagues from my days running EverGreen Escapes across the PNW for 12 years.  Since then, I’ve been busy working with our friends around the world to bring the Transformational Travel Council to life. One of our signature programs is called Destination Regeneration and I am super proud to announce that our 2nd Early-Adopter of this program, Embrace Whidbey and Camano Islands, won the Destination Stewardship award for their work with us!

“The Destination Stewardship Award recognizes an individual, business, or nonprofit organization that effectively promotes environmental awareness, institutes regenerative travel, or espouses community values and well-being in the State of Washington.”

I got to say, I got a little misty eyed when they made the announcement, and we were brought on stage to receive the award. It’s incredibly challenging bringing new ideas and perspectives to an industry that is very difficult to shift and I couldn’t be more grateful of Sherrye Wyatt for recognizing that we might be able to help them and for her to rally folks in her community to come together and do the deep work necessary to start building a regenerative place.

Big, heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to Sherrye Wyatt and all the residents who followed Sherrye’s lead and co-created an ever-evolving, self-organizing, self-healing, and resilient community with a 100-year plan!

Shout out to Brian Mullis, Jillian Dickens, Marina Laurent, and Vivian Vanessa Wabitsch for their incredible contributions to this uniquely immersive and impactful community-based tourism program, Destination Regeneration!

Transformational and regenerative values, which are deeply rooted in the development of individual and collective integrity, empathy, patterns of nature, and a more expansive viewpoint, are being acknowledged more and more as a significant factor fostering healing and growth throughout various sectors of human existence, including tourism. Individuals like Sherrye Wyatt and the locals who went on this journey with us are increasingly embracing the role of catalysts for transformation, and regeneration, and embodying ideals that encourage interconnectedness, eco-consciousnesses, and advancement in the field of personal development.

Purposefully,
