Jake's Weekly Flow #28

Weekly Flow #28 - July 14th, 2023

Dear, wanderer

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and profound wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • Want to ignite your travel practice, listen or watch my mentor and TTC Advisor, Phil Cousineau, share stories, tips, and perspectives and how to connect with the soul of a place in this mesmerizing 1 hr. interview. “ Whether travelling to Mecca or Memphis, Stonehenge or Cooperstown, one’s journey becomes meaningful when the traveler’s heart and imagination are open to experiencing the sacred. Austin American Statesman writes, "If Joseph Campbell, the Dalai Lama, and Bill Moyers were to have collaborated on a book about journeys, I suspect it would look very much like The Art of Pilgrimage." See the photo below!

  • Did you know that there were more people on pilgrimage last year than any other year in history? Perhaps, in their quest for hope, meaning, and purpose, they are simply searching for their truest selves. Here's an invitation to join Mona Lewicka, the Director of Business Development at TTC, on Camino de Santiago in early October. And one last spot opened on my walk departing on the 23rd of September, if you’re interested in our group of 8 seekers, ping me and let’s talk.

  • If you’re feeling stuck and “can’t” go on the pilgrimage with me or Mona, watch “Feeling Stuck? Use Street Wisdom to Navigate the World with More Curiosity with David Pearl.”

  • Looking at the cosmos somehow shifts my consciousness in seconds, maybe you too. Check out these mind blowing photos from the first year of the Webb Space Telescope.

  • Empowering Solo Travel: Essential tips for women embarking on their first adventure - Solo female travel has been gaining popularity, with an increasing number of women embracing the freedom and empowerment it offers.

  • This week, our friends at Soul Focused Group welcome Gabriel Lugo to their podcast to continue our exploration of A New Mind. Gabriel, Martin, and Dustin discuss the idea of non-Duality which is the basis of self-awareness and consciousness. It's the recognition that we are all connected. Gabriel shares his own spiritual practices that he uses to get in touch with his true self and to better understand himself. He also shares how he brings the meditative state into his daily life and how that can help us discover our true and most powerful selves. Check out Gabriel’s own podcast on your favorite platform: The Law of One and Non-Duality.

  • I hadn’t heard of this concept before and as someone that loves a good storm, this calls to me! Check out the 14 Best monsoon travel destinations.

  • If you’re looking for a last minute adventure in the Pacific Northwest curated and facilitated by my pal, Sara Leger, check out FEAST BY FIRE on August 12 - 13, 2023 on the rugged and beautiful Washington’s remote and wild coastline.

  • Thanks to our newest TTC Ally Member, Sheri Bluestein, for sharing “How narcissism killed the tourist - Your Instagram feed is sullying the art of travel.” By Lucy Lethbridge

Jake enjoying "The Art of the Pilgrimage" The Seeker's Guide to Making Travel Sacred, written by Phil Cousineau, acclaimed author and member of the TTC Advisory Council

I will leave you with this beautiful sonnet from Sri Aurobindo, The Pilgrim of the Night …

I made an assignation with the Night;
In the abyss was fixed our rendezvous:
In my breast carrying God's deathless light
I came her dark and dangerous heart to woo.
I left the glory of the illumined Mind
And the calm rapture of the divinized soul
And travelled through a vastness dim and blind
To the grey shore where her ignorant waters roll.
I walk by the chill wave through the dull slime
And still that weary journeying knows no end;
Lost is the lustrous godhead beyond Time,
There comes no voice of the celestial Friend.
And yet I know my footprints' track shall be
A pathway towards Immortality.

Keep Walking,
