I met Kate McIver in the 2022 Transformational Travel Design Program and we instantly gravitated towards each other over a mutual interest in collaborative design—and a compulsive obsession for details! We also share similar backgrounds in adult education and instructional design, so when it came time to choose our Capstone projects, we decided to join forces to support Tanner and the TTC in redesigning the learning experience of the program.

As co-design partners, we established an intentional and focused process of inquiry and design. Our goal was to create a cohesive and structured learning journey that delivers the same tenets that the program teaches. We felt it was imperative that the Transformational Travel Design Program can and should provide students the tools and knowledge to facilitate transformational travel opportunities, while simultaneously experiencing new ways of being and engaging with their cohort members—and the world at large.

We redesigned the course with a unique eye toward a transformational learning journey by applying the principles of learning design and enabling learners to embody the teachings through experiential learning. We also developed lesson planning tools to focus the course content, maintaining the integrity of its message, and identified a variety of learning activities to increase engagement and meaning-making. Delving into this level of detail and intention also offered greater clarity in the course marketing, identifying clear objectives, and target audiences for the course.
