Jake's Weekly Flow #36

Weekly Flow #36 - September 9th, 2023

Dear, Roamer

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and profound wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • Two weeks before I start walking a section of the Camino de Santiago, my mom decides to share with me that she once planned to walk the way, but she didn’t tell me, and she didn’t go. In this blog written decades ago, she shares her unique and powerful perspective on why …  “As I reflect on my inner process, I see more clearly that we are all on our own Caminos. And for myself, I can see that walking a marathon, through the woods, or the Camino de Santiago is a physical metaphor for my inner journey. I like how that feels, it feels like a calling.” - Julie Haupert

  • Beyond safaris: Why it’s time for tourism to end the Disneyfication of Africa - "Africa is more than just a vast savannah full of animals and luxury lodges. And as tourism to the continent continues to grow, it’s time to leave the wholesale ‘Disneyfication’ of Africa to one side. Instead, let’s focus on the people, cultures and communities that call it home," writes Lebawit Lily Girma

  • Is Regenerative Travel the Future of Tourism?  "Destinations like Mexico and Hawaii offer visitors the chance to leave their vacation spots better than they found them—but barriers to truly environmentally friendly travel remain "- Michele Bigley

  • On that note, I’m so proud that the Transformational Travel Council’s very own Vanessa Vivian Wabitsch is speaking at the upcoming Green Destinations Conference in Estonia on the design and implementation of our Destination Regeneration Program with Embrace Whidbey and Camano Islands.

  • This looks good, I’m signing up! Finding purpose across the lifespan event. "Do you want to awaken or rediscover your sense of purpose in life? Are you facing a major life change or transition and looking for a North Star to guide you through? Or are you looking to help other people find more meaning and purpose in their lives? This interactive, virtual event will offer research-based techniques to hone your sense of purpose, no matter what stage of life you’re in, from the formative years of adolescence through midlife and older adulthood."

  • I’m proud to showcase one of our TTC members providing transformative retreats in Puerto Rico! Yancy Wright, founder of Casa Alternavida, shares his unique and impactful approach to creating experiences in nature that inspire deep personal insight and long-term positive behavior change.

  • Podcast - The Art of Surrender: A Buddhist Approach to Letting Go of Struggle, by Scott Tusa

  • Warm gratitude to TTC member Theresa (Akua) Powell, founder of Dream Catcher Global Founder & CEO: "Transforming Lives through Travel & Adventure" for passing on this soul stirring video, easily my favorite listen of the month. Aloneness to Oneness - Best Life Changing Spiritual Documentary Film on Non-duality

Sad to lose Jimmy Buffett this week, a man that just seemed to live life well. I am happy to honor him this week. “Come Monday” is such a gorgeous song, have a listen below and enjoy the cool intro from Jimmy. Jessica and I were at one of the best concert venues in the world, The Gorge Amphitheater, for a Dave Matthews concert last weekend and we were lucky enough to hear Dave cover, “A Pirate Looks at 40.” We will miss you Jimmy and the slow and simple life you inspired in many. We enjoyed a couple of margaritas as well.

Love, weekends and margaritas,
