Jake's Weekly Flow #34

Weekly Flow #34 - August 26th, 2023

Dear, conscious traveler

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and profound wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • From two truly remarkable and inspiring men, Mahdi Davenport and Dustin Washington of Soul Focused Group. “Prepare to liberate yourself from the grip of competition, unlocking the profound support embedded in the spirit of cooperation. This transformative narrative promises to leave an indelible mark on your leadership journey to transform your relationship to power.” Join The Power Summit is a 6-month journey on September 23rd from 10am-1pm PST/1pm-4pm EST.

  • Some very good news from Euromonitor … Euromonitor report reveals travelers willing to pay extra for sustainable travel! - Nearly 80% of travelers will pay at least 10 per cent more for sustainable travel features despite the cost-of-living crisis. In fact, 41% of travelers are also prepared to pay more than 30% extra for adventure and eco-tourism, according to the Voice of the Consumer.

  • Would you book a trip into the unknown? Acclaimed travel writer Everett Potter gave me my first meaningful press back in 2008! Everett, and my business partner, Michael Bennett were also at a beautiful lodge together prior to giving the industry transforming talk on the power of transformational travel that first landed on the cover of Vogue Magazine and many articles since, highlighting the Explorer X mantra, ‘Travel Better to Live Better!’. Here is the most recent collaboration between Everett and Explorer X, Destination Unknown, the ultimate surprise trip! - “Michael Bennett is a co-founder of both and finds himself in the center of this new travel trend, with a small but growing group of core travelers reaching out to him to plan their trips. Where are they going? They’ll find out when they get to the airport.”

  • My Grandmother’s Earrings Transformational Travel: Ellerman House in Cape Town By Rona Berg! An impactful and inspiring read and I’m honored to be quoted, “We believe that change happens from the inside out, and our sole focus is promoting personal reflection, understanding, and mindful action while traveling.”

  • My good high school friend and fellow social and environmental activist, Molly Harmon, sent this my way and I am compelled to pass it on to my readership … From Molly, “I am giving up my bed for the night to raise funds and awareness for the nearly 4.2 million young people who experience homelessness each year.  Will you join me? I plan to sleep out in Wilmington, DE, alongside my family, as an act of solidarity with the resilient young people who face and have overcome homelessness. Sleep Out is not a night of pretend, and it's not a slumber party. As part of my Sleep Out, I hear from front-line staff at Covenant House, who work 24/7 to keep young people safe, healthy, and sheltered, and alums who have overcome homelessness.”

  • Ready to go solo-style? The Ultimate Guide to Solo Travel: Tips and Inspiration - In a world that’s more interconnected than ever before, the allure of solo travel has captured the hearts of many adventurers seeking to explore the unknown, step out of their comfort zones, and embrace the freedom of a journey guided solely by their desires.

  • If you’re inspired by transformational travel, I invite you to consider a few opportunities to join me, the TTC, and the global movement toward creating a healthier, more conscious, and impactful tourism.

Today my heart wants to leave you with this beautiful poem that captures the beauty and essence of transformation, growth, healing and our yearning or even our mandate  to to find our truest selves, which is often made easier by traveling to transform.

To learn while still a child
What this life is meant to be.
To know it goes beyond myself,
It’s so much more than me.
To overcome the tragedies,
To survive the hardest times.
To face those moments filled with pain,
And still, manage to be kind.
To fight for those who can’t themselves,
To always share my light.
With those who wander in the dark,
To love with all my might.
To still stand up with courage,
Though standing on my own.
To still get up and face each day,
Even when I feel alone.
To try to understand the ones
That no one cares to know.
And make them feel some value
When the world has let them go.
To be an anchor, strong and true,
That person loyal to the end.
To be a constant source of hope
To my family and my friends.
To live a life of decency,
To share my heart and soul.
To always say I’m sorry
When I’ve harmed both friend and foe.
To be proud of whom I’ve tried to be,
And this life I chose to live.
To make the most of every day
By giving all I have to give.
To me, that’s what this life should be,
To me, that’s what it’s for.
To take what God has given me
And make it so much more
To live a life that matters,
To be someone of great worth.
To love and be loved in return
And make my mark on Earth.
