Jake's Weekly Flow #33

Weekly Flow #33 - August 19th, 2023

Dear, Seeker

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and profound wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • I was recently made aware of this good organization doing good work in South Africa. “WildChoices is a registered non-profit company dedicated to responsible captive wildlife tourism. We rely on grants and fundraising to raise awareness to improve the standard of ethics and promote best practice in the care of captive wildlife used in tourism.” Donate to support ethical captive wildlife tourism

  • Loving this concept of a yoga safari! Transformative Journey you must try once in your lifetime - “The mesmerizing combination of yoga and safari is one such extraordinary encounter that promises to leave an indelible impact on your soul.”

  • The Rise of Spiritual Tourism Worldwide: - “Why Travelers Seek Soulful Destinations” By Neha Choubey

  • Thank you, MJ, for sharing this gem with me! Inciting joy with Ross Gay | The TED Interview

  • This is my favorite read this week! Know thyself! A maxim that should apply to tourism - By Vanguélis Panayotis - “Has tourism completed its transformation to take on a new dimension? The question is worth asking to corroborate the new direction that is taking shape after the end of the health crisis. We are no longer simply talking about travel but more broadly about entertainment, social peace, family conviviality, and even societal reconciliation…”

  • And from Daily OM - Taking a Day Trip “We need not go on an expensive vacation to feel we have had time off as your local park or beach can offer a blissful refuge.”

Let’s riff on the Day Trip article to bring us to a close this week …

One of the most profound and succinct ways of communicating what is different about transformational travel is the idea that it is about ‘depth over distance!’ This opens us up to the power of travel every day, in our backyard, in our neighborhoods, really, all around us, it is a mindset, a mode to engaging the world around us. It is more about being intentional, present, aware, and seeking out mindful moments of reflection and contemplation rather than mindlessly cruising through attractions, taking photos, and posting on social media.  This approach also gives access to the power of travel to everyone, everywhere. As one of my mentors, Phil Cousineau, shares in the foreword of our Transformational Travel Journal, “So many go so far to feel so little.” Or this gem, “They change their sky, not their soul, who rush across the sea.”
