Jake's Weekly Flow #42

Weekly Flow #42 - October 21st, 2023

Dear, friends

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and profound wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • Our Ambassador in Germany, Lars von der Wettern, introduced me to Justine Trembicki this week and I just fell in love with her work at Real-Step! I highly recommend a click or two, especially if you’re looking for ethical voluntourism projects. The training on how to become a Humanitarian caught my eye! What is going to grab you and not let go?

  • Why is space so dark even though the universe is filled with Stars?

  • Fog means sweater weather, which my biz partner, Michael Bennett lives for! We often appreciate the sun, the moon, the stars, the rain, but what about fog … It carries such emotion with it, drawing you inward and calming the soul somehow. Pour a cup of tea and check out these photos of fog rolling over landscapes.

  • Did you know that October is bullying prevention month. I met Joe Morris at the Mercy Housing Fundraising event in Seattle last week and he told me about his children’s book, “The Bully Needs A Friend.” It’s all about the power of being empathetic to bullies as way to heal. LOVE this!  If you do too, here is a link to the GoFundMe page.

  • My good friend and Co-Founder of Explorer X and the TTC, Michael Bennett, recently designed a transformative adventure in Ireland for one of the hosts of Marriage Therapy Radio. In this episode, Zach Brittle shares about his recent trip to Ireland and what he learned about life and relationships in his travels. Very honest, vulnerable, insightful!

  • I’ve been diving into Cathedral Thinking of late, so intriguing. Have a listen to this one:  We need long-term thinking Roman Krznaric | The Good Ancestor: A Radical Prescription for Long-Term Thinking. “Philosopher Roman Krznaric discusses his most recent book "The Good Ancestor: A Radical Prescription for Long-Term Thinking".  “Krznaric explores six ways we can expand our time horizons to confront the long-term challenges of our age— from the threats of climate change to the lack of planning for a global pandemic. Do we have what it takes to become the good ancestors that future generations deserve?”

One of my most memorable travel experiences was the two weeks spent in the Zabalo region of the Ecuadorian Amazon with the Sound tracker, Gordon Hempton, cofounder of Quiet Parks International and one of my dear mentors. I recently stumbled across this article about silence in the Amazon. The Amazon’s Impending Silence: An Urgent Call to Listen “Beyond its role in sustaining our atmosphere, the Amazon also holds a different kind of treasure that deserves as much attention — its cacophony of life.”

We will be immersing deeply into protection of the Amazon and many other challenging topics related transformational travel and climate action at Transcend ‘24 at Bonito, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, the forest net-zero destination on the planet. JOIN US!
