Jake's Weekly Flow #45

Weekly Flow #45 - November 12th, 2023

Dear, Dragon Flies

Welcome to my weekly flow of news, events, insightful perspectives, and impactful stories aimed at creating positive change in your life and the lives you touch, at home and on the road.

My curious mind, intuitive soul, and big heart, along with some personal connections and crushes on extraordinary humans have put me in a position to receive an abundance of practical information, exciting innovation, and profound wisdom, usually travel-related, that has flowed to me, and now, on to you. Before you scan, take a breath, tune in, open up to the flow, and find your glow.

  • Welcome to the Age of Experience - By Reynaldo C. Lugtu, Jr. “In recent years, there has been a notable shift in the way our society values and prioritizes experiences. This transformation, often referred to as "The Age of Experience," is characterized by a growing emphasis on personal experiences and their significance in shaping our lives, perspectives, and priorities. From the way we travel and dine to the way we engage with technology and make career choices; the age of experience has left its mark on every aspect of our lives. We need to further explore the concept of the age of experience, its implications for individuals, businesses, and society as a whole.”

  • Learn more about how we’re leading the emerging Transformation Economy with TTC Advisor, Joe Pine, Co-Author of “The Experience Economy,”

  • A very depressing but important read. Stolen Childhoods: Unveiling Orphanage Tourism Across the Globe - “Traffickers exploit the vulnerability of children for financial incentives from donors in orphanages and child residential homes.”

  • This is rather obvious, but still a very grounded reminder of how important it is to weave travel, near and far, into how we raise and educate our children. How Travel Enhances Students’ Global Perspectives - By Lizzy Maken

  • Go for a walk or grab a tea and settle in for this one. Awakening a wondrous world through storytelling - “What would it take for a wiser and more beautiful world to emerge, even in the midst of crisis? Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee says stories are like seeds, and when they are watered with our attention, they can grow into a landscape of awe, wonder, reverence, and love. Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee is the founder and executive editor of Emergence magazine, which connects ecology, culture, and spirituality. He is also a filmmaker and Naqshbandi Sufi teacher and grew up in an ashram overseen by the Russian-British mystic, Irina Tweedie.”

  • I just LOVE highlighting the truly great stories that come from alumni of our Transformational Travel Design Course. Dr Jeff Muntifering, PhD combined his own experience, and wisdom with our teachings to create Full Circle Studies and Safaris in Nepal, Uganda, Rwanda, and Namibia, focused on Seeking Travel that Goes Beyond Sustainability’s.

  • If you’re in tourism, I hope you’ll consider joining me at Transcend ‘24 in Brazil!  It is a very unique, inside-out unconference that will give us the space to connect with each other and dive into the confluence of transformational travel and climate action!

I really hope that you watch the powerful and beautiful short video from Charles Eisenstein, Life is a Gift: “Underneath all of the sharpest divisions, human beings of any opinion tribe can still recognize certain fundamental truths. I like to touch those sometimes, so that I myself don’t get lost in the conflict. Conflict is loud. Fear is loud. Rage is loud. Bombs are loud, and so are the wails of mothers and the sobs of children and cries of the afflicted for justice. All of these can drown out other important sounds that the heart needs to hear. With that in mind, I offer you this beautiful animated and scored rendition of some simple words I spoke one day to a young man. Thank you Edie Art for this creation.” - Charles Eisenstein

And a mesmerizing and timely poem for you to sit with today …
More Love, More Love by Rosemary Wahtola Trommer

If sorrow is how we learn to love,
then let us learn.
Already enough sorrow’s been sown
for whole continents to erupt
into astonishing tenderness.
Let us learn. Let compassion grow rampant,
like sunflowers along the highway.
Let each act of kindness replant itself
into acres and acres of widespread devotion.
Let us choose love as if our lives depend on it.
The sorrow is great. Let us learn to love greater—
riotous love, expansive love,
love so rooted, so common
we almost forget
the world could look any other way.

WOW! I hope you have a fulfilling and smiley weekend!

Choose love,
